Ford EcoBoost Engine of 1 liter is the no 1 International Engine of the year

The engine, gasoline, 1-liter EcoBoost, Ford Motor Company was chosen as the International Engine of the year 2013, making it the second consecutive year, the acclaimed three-cylinder engine get this award.

1-liter EcoBoost engine, has a mix of direct injection, turbo overeating and variable distribution, reducing consumption without sacrificing power, he earned the highest score in the history of the competition. The engine also won the category "best under 1 litre engine" at the annual awards given by the International magazine Engine Technology

Ford has also confirmed plans to double production at its factory in Cologne, Germany, to over 1,000 engines per day since mid-august, 2003, to meet the demand.

A group of 87 journalists from 35 countries around the world have juried competition in terms of maneuverability, performance and consumption, refinement and application of advanced technologies successfully in terms of engines. Ford is one of the three automobile manufacturers which have recorded consecutive wins in the 15-year history of the awards. Ford EcoBoost engine of 1 liter also won international Prize Paul Pietsch 2013 for technological innovation within the Best Cars awards granted by the German magazine Auto Motor und Sport, Dewar Trophy by the Royal Automobile Club in the United Kingdom and technological breakthrough Award from Popular Mechanics magazine in the USA.

1-liter EcoBoost engine was designed at the research and development centres of Ford in Aachen and Merkenich, Germany, and the United Kingdom, Dunton, and is produced at plants in Cologne and Craiova, Romania.

The engine of 1 liter EcoBoost equips young models today, like the Fiesta and B-MAX, but also the compact models such as the Focus, C-MAX and Grand C-MAX.  In the near future will equip older models, including the new Ford Mondeo. He will also be offered together with Transit Connect commercial vehicles and Transit Courier and transport vehicles travel the Tourneo Connect Tourneo. 

The engine is in the process of launching worldwide. It is currently available on the EcoSport models in India and China, and later this year will be released on Fiesta in North America.

Small enough to fit into the luggage compartment of a hand plane, the engine delivers the best fuel consumption in its class on the European market fitted on models such as the Fiesta, Focus, C-MAX and Grand C-MAX.

Ford's Craiova car factory and Cologne were upgraded to facilitate the production of 1 liter EcoBoost engine, introduced advanced production techniques that reduce the volume of cooling agents required in the processing of aluminum engine parts at just 5 milliliters per component from 2 litres previously, contributing to a reduced environmental footprint.

He was also introduced to the new technology of "cold test", which allows for testing engines without being turned on, reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions from this process with 66%. The rest of the energy needed to operate the plant in Cologne comes from renewable sources, including hydroelectric plants in Norway and three Sweden.

Ford Europe plans to triple annual production of vehicles with EcoBoost gasoline engines at approximately 480,000 till 2015, from 141,000 in 2011. The company estimates that more than 300,000 of these vehicles will be equipped with EcoBoost 1.0-liter engine. In the first quarter of 2013, 1-liter EcoBoost engine represented 42% of the model B-MAX commands, 30% of the Focus model controls and 24% of the Fiesta's orders all 19 traditional markets of Ford in Europe.

  2. Hmm, so far, there is no 1 Liter Ecoboost for the Fiesta in site. It isn't on Ford's 2014 Fiesta web site, and no mention of the fuel economy of this model on fueleconomy_gov. Hmm I hope it comes to be and Ford hasn't decided to delay it.
